Web sites, customer/volunteer management systems, blogs, Excel automation, etc. The only real constraint is that the project must be achievable in the span of GiveCamp weekend.
I have no idea what can be accomplished in the span of a weekend, can you help?
Yes; submit your proposed project, and our volunteer requirements experts will work with selected organizations to set appropriate scope and expectations for what can be delivered by the end of GiveCamp.
How are projects selected?
The process begins with your non-profit completing a project proposal, which collects information on the organization and the nature of the proposed project. We'll look at the role of each organization in the Central Florida community, the potential benefit proposed projects will have to organizations and/or those they serve. Other factors may come into play, such as the availability of technical volunteers to provide niche services. After your proposal has been submitted, you or a technical contact you specify in your proposal may be contacted to provide additional details about the organization and/or project as part of the decision-making process.
When are proposals due?
The deadline for project proposals is Friday, September 9th.
When will projects be selected?
All submitters will be notified about project selection during the week of September 19th.
If selected, what do I need to do to prepare for GiveCamp?
In the weeks prior to the event, a requirements expert will meet with you (on-site, if possible; telephonically, otherwise) to discuss the project. He or she will help solidify a common understanding of the project's goal(s), establish the scope of the project (how much can reasonably be accomplished during GiveCamp), and gather technical requirements that will help your development team get straight to work during the event. He or she will also identify any tasks that will need to be done in advance, such as purchasing a domain name.
If my project is selected, what level of commitment is there on my part at GiveCamp?
As the ‘customer’ in this relationship, you are a vital member of the team. A member of your organization should attend the orientation meeting on the evening of Friday, October 21st, as well as the closing ceremonies that Sunday afternoon (October 23rd). We also invite you to be present at the GiveCamp to help answer questions from your development team, test the application as it’s being developed, provide additional direction, and perhaps receive some light training on maintaing the solution once it’s installed at your organization. If being on site for some subset of the event is impossible, we request that a representative of your organization be available remotely – via cell-phone, e-mail, etc. – as a resource for the development team.
What happens after GiveCamp?
At the end of GiveCamp, your development team will either have deployed your solution for you or turned over all of the programming artifacts so they can be installed and updated by your organization when you are ready. There is, however, no expectation that the development team will continue to work with you after the GiveCamp weekend to provide installation, bug fixing, or additional programming support. Individuals may volunteer to provide these services, but this is outside the scope of the GiveCamp event.
How do I sign up?
Submit a project proposal. You can get started now with 5 simple questions and finish it later (but no later than September 9th).
